JOINT STATEMENT
17 华团联合声明
We refer to the news report on 02.05.2016 that 3
Chinese clan associations fully support the independent candidate for
Simanggang, Dato Dr. Ngu Piew Seng and urged the voters to vote for him.
We represent seventeen (17) societies or associations
in Simanggang, which members are mainly Chinese and many of whom are in fact
members of the 3 Chinese clan associations. We make this joint statement to
give a better and real picture of the local support for Team Adenan.
The substantial majority of our members fully support
CM Adenan for the many right things that he has done. For instance, under the
leadership of CM Adenan:
[1]
the UEC has been
recognised in Sarawak;
[2]
substantial
funds have been approved and given to Chinese schools;
[3]
autonomy for
Sarawak is fought for;
[4]
the reduction of
assessment bill;
[5]
the land
adjoining the Simanggang Temple has been approved for future extension of the
Temple.
Prior to the Nomination Day on 25.04.2016, prospective
BN candidates have been evaluated by CM Adenan and supporters of Dr. Ngu have
had the chance to voice their support. If Dr. Ngu was chosen by CM, Dr. Ngu would
have been the BN direct candidate.
CM Adenan has made the decision of having Datuk
Francis Harden as the candidate. CM has also repeatedly stated that independent
candidates, even if they win, will not be accepted into BN.
The representatives of the 3 Chinese clan associations
said they support CM Adenan but will vote for Dr. Ngu. These are contradictory
stands. Real supporters of CM have to respect and follow his decision and accept
that the time to disagree on the choice of candidate has long passed.
It may be said that the local Chinese have the right
to take contradictory stands. If they chose to split Adenan’s votes or vote
against Adenan on 07.05.2016, how could they say Datuk Francis is the cause of
the disunity (if any) among the local Chinese?
Therefore, we urge every voter to give fully support
to Team Adenan’s candidate in N32 Simanggang- Francis Harden.
